Crash and Smash
From the outside a demolition derby looks like a sport that's nothing more than finding an old car and simply crashing them into each other. How hard can that be I have heard folks remark on a few occasions. On a basic level its that simple but if you want to compete and last more than one heat a derby car needs to be transformed in to a machine that can become a crumpled mass of metal that still drives around the ring. To build a competitive derby car you need an expert knowledge in car design, auto mechanics, and the ability to perform repairs under pressure in adverses environments. If you ever get a chance to attend a Demo Derby I highly recommend it. The sport is pure raw American ingenuity at its finest. Just bring ear plugs because all that horsepower and carnage can be loud.
