The ghostly remain of a Cold War relic. Built in 1957 as a strategic linchpin to protect America in case the Soviet empire decided to sneak attack Americas heart-land. The rational was the Soviets could fly over the North Pole and through Canada to bomb an unexpected America. In conjunction an array of high powered radar stations were built along the border to early detect a surprise attack.
Today the base largely sits empty...
The Boeing Company purchased the runway and main hanger complex and use the facilities for testing and training while a few adventurous folks maintain homes in the mostly abandon base housing neighborhoods.
If you plan to visit please stay on the marked roads and respect the property of the people who reside there. The abandon properties are technically private property and their trespassing is illegal. If you do want to take a close look please feel free to reach out to me via the contact form above. I would be more than happy to point you in the right direction to who you can ask to gain permission.
